Overview

The Great Buddha Cafe, nestled on the second floor of UBE Tower along Ongpin Street in Binondo, Manila, offers a compelling destination for lovers of authentic Chinese cuisine. Situated just above the famed Eng Bee Tin deli, this spot provides an inviting escape with a well-kept, spacious interior that balances comfort with a traditional ambiance. The elevated location adds a touch of exclusivity while offering a peaceful respite from the lively streets below.

The menu features a strong lineup of Cantonese and broader Chinese classics, with standout dishes such as their Xiao Long Bao Pork Soup Dumplings and Claypot Rice Beef with Tendon. These signature offerings demonstrate a mastery of texture and flavor, with the dumplings boasting a delicate skin that encases rich, savory broth, and the claypot rice delivering tender beef tendon suspended in aromatic, smoky rice. Another highlight is the Beef Hofan, which impresses with its bouncy noodles and juicy slices, embodying the heart of comfort food in Chinese dining.

Seafood enthusiasts will appreciate the fresh quality of items like the Seafood Roll and the Sweet and Sour Fish, both of which strike a well-executed balance between flavor layers. For those with a sweet tooth, desserts such as the Giant Moon Cake and Choco Lava Pao close the meal with a gratifying finish, combining familiar textures with innovative fillings.

Patrons often note the generosity of portions, making it ideal for families or groups seeking a satisfying meal without skimping on quantity. Several customers highlight the fresh, tender meats and expertly cooked noodles, appreciating both the texture and the ample amount of protein. The restaurant’s commitment to cleanliness and thoughtful table spacing also enhances the dining experience, ensuring comfort even during busy periods.

While the food quality generally earns high praise, some mention timing inconsistencies—especially with soup orders arriving later than expected—though this seems to be occasional rather than systemic. Accessibility could be a concern for some due to the stairway entrance and restroom facilities not ideally suited for seniors or persons with disabilities, factors worth considering when planning a visit.

The Great Buddha Cafe caters primarily to diners who appreciate authentic Chinese flavors combined with generous servings and a welcoming environment. Whether you’re looking to indulge in classic noodle soups like Shrimp Wanton Noodles or try comforting specialties such as the beef tendon dishes, this restaurant offers a robust experience reflecting the culinary richness of Binondo. For visitors seeking a balance between quality, portion, and atmosphere, The Great Buddha Cafe stands as a noteworthy choice within Manila’s vibrant food scene.

Really good food with big servings. I really liked their sweet chili fish tofu, sweet & sour pork, beef wonton noodle, and xiao long bao.

The restaurant is in the first floor of Eng Bee Tin Chinese Deli. You need to climb the stairs on the left after the entrance. We came on a Friday afternoon time and there was no waiting. The order was served after some time around 30-40 minutes which we used to buy some take aways downstairs. The dumplings was served first then the rest of the main entrees but unfortunately the shrimp and wanton soup came very late and last, which is really odd and disappointing as we expect the soup to be served first. It took us 3 times to follow up our soup which came around after 1 hour… seriously for a soup of shrimp and wanton? All the food are tasty and the pork and beef meat are tender and juicy. The noodles are cooked bouncy and chewy with generous amount of meat. Definitely will come back again and is highly recommended place to eat Chinese dishes in Binondo as the price are very reasonable with its servings. My only issue in this place are the stairs going to the restaurant and the washroom. Not good for older customers or PWD friendly.

We would often go here whenever we visit Binondo and after buying from Eng Bee Tin. Good serving size for it’s price. We liked the salt and pepper squid a lot. Serving times and wait times may vary depending on the time of the day.

I think they have the best hot & sour soup in Metro Manila! Fried rice had a good wok hey. Nice and clean resto, I love how tables have ample space between them. Nice and clean toilets! Good service... I've had better dumplings in other Chinese restos in the area... I'm sure there are other better things to order in their menu.
